DRESS CODE

WHAT DO YOU WEAR TO DANCE CLASS?​​

BALLET:

Hair (All Levels): Proper Ballet Bun using a hair net and bun pins. No bun donuts, bun socks or bun makers. Bangs secured and kept out of face. Use hairspray to slick down frizzies or flyaways. 

• Essentials for your dance bag: hair elastics, hairbrush, bobby pins, hair pins, hairspray, hair net.

Girl's Dress Code for RAD Ballet:

• Leotard Black thick-strap or Spaghetti-strap. Please no crisscross straps, cap sleeves, or asymmetrical patterns. No shorts or skirts. Please avoid wearing sports bras under leotard. If this is an issue, Hailey will have a great leotard recommendation, or dancers may wear a sports bra that best matches the shape/colour of the leotard. 

• Tights "Ballet Pink" OR to match skin tone. Convertible foot for tights.

• Shoes: For Level A/B/C/D: sole leather pink ballet shoes.

• Shoes: For Level 1/2/3:  split-sole canvas ballet shoes.

• Levels 2+3 only: in addition to split-sole canvas shoes, pointe shoes will be recommended at Teacher's discretion and with parent discussion.

Boy's Dress Code:

• Top: White slim fitting t -shirt, tank top or white leotard.

• Bottom: Black slim fitting shorts or pants/leggings/tights. No baggy pants.

• Shoes: Level A/B/C/D/1: black full sole leather ballet shoes. 

• Shoes: For Level 1/2/3:  split-sole canvas ballet shoes.

• Hair: Short hair must be kept out of face and eyes with hair product. Long hair pulled back.

PRESCHOOL BALLET:

Black leotard, pink ballet tights and pink ballet shoes. If your tiny dancer doesn't want to wear it, it's no problem! We are happy to have them come to class dressed in anyway they feel comfortable - a different colored leotard/skirt, shirt and shorts, etc.  We understand!​

JAZZ & MUSICAL THEATRE:

• Shoes: Black Jazz oxford shoes (preference would be WITHOUT laces).

• Clothing: Black full length leggings and black body suit.

• Hair: in ponytail or bun.

• Boys: black sweatpants and black shirt.

• Split-Sole jazz sneakers are optional for extra support for all rehearsals during the season. Some competitive jazz classes may need beige-coloured jazz oxford shoes based on costume choices. Instructor will let dancers know after costume orders have been finalized.​

TAP:

• Shoes: tap shoes, (preferably oxford lace up style shoe).

• Clothing: Black full length leggings and black body suit.

• Hair: pulled into ponytail or bun.

• Boys: black sweatpants and black shirt.

HIP HOP:

• Shoes: CLEAN INDOOR running shoes, or jazz shoes

• Clothing (All Dancers): Baggy sweat pants and shirt. Hair pulled into a pony tail.

• Split Sole Jazz sneakers are optional for extra support for all rehearsals during the season.

MODERN/CONTEMPORARY:

• Shoes: Bare feet or half-sole shoes.

• Clothing: Black full length leggings and black body suit.

• Hair: pulled into a ponytail.

• Boys: black sweatpants and black shirt.

​ACRO:

• Shoes: Bare feet or half-sole shoes.

• Clothing: Black full length leggings and black body suit.

• Hair: pulled into a ponytail or bun. 

• Boys: black sweatpants and black shirt.

WHERE CAN I BUY DANCE CLOTHING?

• Dance Essentials in Kelowna sells all shoes and  ballet dance attire. They keep our Dress Code on file at Dance Essentials so they will be there to help your dancer purchase what is needed if you have any questions. 

• USED Dance Shoes & Dancewear  can be purchased at our studio during the first few weeks of the year. Feel free to bring any of your used shoes or dancewear to sell. Please put your full name and sales prices on the used items - we recommend using masking tape with a sharpie (on both shoes please, sometimes they get separated).  If your items sell, we will add the amount as a credit onto your Studio Director account.
